It was my dear husband's birthday

Last Monday was my husband's 34th birthday. I've yet to get him a decent present but Insya Allah by Thursday, I hope to get him a good pair of running shoes to replace his present cheap, broken and uncomfortable pair.

Alhamdulillah, this important person is still around, to support the family and most crucially to shower all of us with love. I mean, him having a family history of various ailments, I could count myself blessed that he is still healthy and kicking.

This one guy, just like me, ain't perfect. Looks, personality and character, opinions...He is not the drop-dead-gorgeous sort. He is not the wonderful-character sort. And opinion-wise, he does have strange ones sometimes. But that's him. I've learnt to accept that, one can still be special even though, he is not perfect.

This one guy, would go out to buy food quite frequently, if I don't manage to prepare the meals in time - and we would get exactly what we want. Rojak mamalah, burgerlah, nasi gorenglah, mee hongkonglah, steaklah..you name it. Whatever I or the son wanted, he would get. Nevermind if he has to travel from Tampines to East Coast Hawker Centre to get sate because he said they've got the nicest. Nevermind if he has to travel to Simpang Bedok to get the steak because he said they serve generous, thick and tasty black pepper sauce, arguably the best in the east. Sometimes, I feel bad as he did have a lot of markings and work to do. But he said it's ok.

This one guy, would ask me early Sunday morning, what he needs to buy from the market. He would be the one buying the onions, garlic and what have you including fish, chicken and beef. By 9 a.m Sunday morning, he would be back with the groceries and placing the need-to-be-frozen items in the freezer and the rest where they belong, while I attend to the kids. Occasionally, he prepares lunch and dinner. Sometimes, I feel bad but he said it's ok.

We've had our fair share of not-so-necessary arguments, thoughtless bickering and nonsensical quarrels.

No doubt, our marriage is work-in-progress. The only threat, is of course from syaitan and of course some of what MIL says, but I hope, Allah will make me stronger and our marriage stronger.

Happy Birthday, Abang... and here's your favourite song...
